Queen Elizabeth II
21/04/1926 - 08/09/2022
It brings us great sadness to receive the news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Mayor of Crediton, Councillor Liz Brookes-Hocking expressed her deep sadness on behalf of residents and offered sincere condolences
to His Majesty The King and The Royal Family.
Proclamation
The national proclamation of the accession of King Charles III took place from 10 a.m. on Saturday, 10 September at St James’ Palace, London.
The Proclamation of the new Sovereign is a very old tradition which can be traced back over many centuries. It is announcement of the accession which took place immediately on the death of the reigning Monarch. In an age where modern methods of communication convey news around the globe in an instant, the proclamation is no longer the means by which people learn for the first time that they have a new Monarch. The Proclamation will be one of the first occasions where our community has an opportunity to come together and reflect on the moment in our nation’s history when the reign of our longest-serving Monarch came to an end and our new Sovereign succeeded.
Crediton Town Council's Proclamation will be held on Monday 12 September at 16.00 on the Town Square, with the Mayor reading the Proclamation. All are invited to attend.
Book of condolence
A book of condolence will be available between the hours of 10.00 and 14.00 in the meeting room of the Town Council Offices at The Bungalow, 8 North Street, Crediton.
Laying of flowers
Should you wish to lay flowers, Holy Cross Church has offered an area to the west end of the church where the Platinum Jubilee sapling was planted. We politely request that plastic is removed prior to laying any floral tribute.
Civic and religious ceremonies
Local religious services will be detailed here when known.
